PAOh boy! Donald Trump’s gone and put his foot right in it.
On Boxing Day, the president announced his plans to withdraw the US from Syria and Afghanistan, undertaking a trip to visit the overseas troops as he did so.
Trump rocked up in a comically large bomber jacket to a soundtrack of ‘USA!’ chants.
‘Our presence in Syria was not open-ended and was never intended to be permanent,’ he said. ‘We’re no longer the suckers folks.’
But the president then asked chaplain of Seal Team 5, Lieutenant Commander Kyu Lee to take a picture with him, as a result revealing the presence of the specials-ops team at the al-Asad Airbase in western Iraq.
A pool report of the trip had been embargoed to protect he and First Lady Melania Trump’s safety in the country.
A Defense Department official told Newsweek:
The deployments of special operation forces, including Navy SEALs are almost always classified events, as to protect those men and women that are on the front lines of every overt and covert conflict the United States is involved in.
Even during special operation demonstrations for congressional delegations or for the president or vice president, personnel either have their faces covered or their face is digitally blurred prior to a release to the general public.
This isn’t Trump’s first blunder of the sort. Back in October the New York Times reported when he calls friends on his personal iPhone – which he was told to drop for security measures – Russian and Chinese spies eavesdrop to keep tabs on the president’s mood and what he might be planning politically.

Last year, Trump left his mobile phone behind in a golf cart at his course in New Jersey which caused a ‘scramble’ to locate it.
I guess it’s quite funny to know the common struggle to find a lost phone isn’t anything new to the leader of the free world.
