If you’re looking to hire someone to sing happy birthday at a party, don’t hire Barack Obama.
Celebrating America’s Independence Day in style on Monday, he paid tribute to the military at a White House party with rapper Kendrick Lamar and singer Janelle Monae.
It also happened to be his daughter’s birthday, and unfortunately, Obama isn’t Adele when it comes to singing Happy Birthday.
The First Daughter was serenaded by the president, Janelle Monáe, Kendrick Lamar and a packed White House during their Fourth of July celebrations. And Obama made sure to take the opportunity of a packed house to do what fathers do best and embarrassed the shit out of his daughter.
The formalities dealt with, he turned his attention to his daughter:
And just because it’s a job of a father to embarrass his daughters, I’ve got one last job. It just so happens that we celebrate our country’s birthday on the same day that we celebrate my eldest daughter’s birthday.
He then launched into an off-key singing of Happy Birthday.
While any other daughter would no doubt run and hide in embarrassment, Malia joined her father on stage and even seemed to enjoy his terrible singing.
The father-daughter duo then hugged before POTUS got back to business and addressed the Fourth of July festivities and thanked his guests for attending:
We enjoy the hotdogs, we enjoy the burgers, we enjoy the barbecue, we enjoy the day off for a lot of us, we enjoy the fireworks. But it’s important to remember what a miracle this country is. How incredibly lucky we are that people, generations ago, were willing to take up arms and fight for our freedom.
And then people, inside this country, understanding that there were imperfections in our union and were willing to keep on fighting on behalf of extending that freedom to all people and not just some.
He ended it all with a simple: ‘God bless America’.
First he wants to open a t-shirt shack in Hawaii and then he tries to embarrass his daughter on stage – he’s definitely a decent dad.
