Apparently, resting bitch face is something that brings people together from all corners of the world.

The expression can say so much without actually saying anything, and apparently we all interpret it the same.

In a study conducted by Ohio State University, native speakers of English, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and American Sign Language all interpreted negative feelings with resting bitch face, or what researchers dubbed the ‘Not Face.’ Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it?

According to Marie Claire, the study was inspired by Charles Darwin, the evolutionary scientist that believed conveying aggression was an asset for the continuation of the human race.

The study concluded that the components of ‘resting bitch face’ included pursed lips, furrowed brows and a raised chin, and also found that the expression was used instead of actual words at times. It was similarly interpreted across all languages – obviously as ‘bitchy.’

So there you go, if you ever find yourself in a foreign country and don’t know the language, pull the resting bitch face and everyone will know what you’re trying to say.

At least that’s one thing the world can unite over.
