After almost 14 long years, The Incredibles 2 is here, and fully costumed fans are jumping up and down with delight and anticipation.
Now, I’m not talking about the kids who weren’t even born back when the original was out – bloody latecomers! – I’m talking about the twentysomethings who were wowed by the powerful Parrs the first time around.
Their loyalty hasn’t waned in the time since they last saw the superhero family kick evil’s butt while learning some valuable life lessons along the way.
And woe betide the fidgeting, shrieking little whippersnappers who think the cinema is some sort of dimly lit soft play area. This isn’t a game, this is the business of world saving…
The Incredibles adult fandom is real, with OG fans having begged for a sequel for years.
Although this is a kid’s film officially, the humour and plot are more than complex and mature enough to keep adults engaged.
This, plus a heart dollop of nostalgia, makes this latest superhero outing catnip for millennials.

And many adult fans have rushed to Twitter to claim the action-packed Pixar movie for their own, even going as far as to warn youngsters – i.e the official target audience – away.
Plenty of people shared enthusiastic pictures of themselves in full superhero costume, some even squeezing into the Mr Incredible suits of their childhood.
One Buddy Pine level fan demanded:
I’m gunna go see The Incredibles 2, but I’m… an ADULT? Haha WHAT?! I guess I’m just quirky like that! Parents leave the kids at HOME, this one is for THE MILLENNIAAAALLS.
Another ‘number one fan’ ordered:
Dear Children @ the Incredibles 2 Movie,
If you ask who any of the characters are, or speak during this movie I will politely ask you to get out.
Sincerely,
Someone who’s actually seen the Incredibles
One particularly dark threat read:
Heard a baby sneeze during incredibles 2 and reached over and snapped its neck.
Been waitin since the great depression to see this sh*t.
In the years since The Incredibles, millenials have seen an inventive dawn in superhero cinema, with the flourishing of the Marvel universe for a new generation.
This year alone, we have had the likes of Black Panther and Avengers:Infinity War, dominating the box office while receiving stellar reviews across the board.
Superheroes have become funnier, darker and more complicated; loved by kids and film critics alike.
But it appears millennials hold a special place in their heart for this Pixar gem, which left us all longing for superpowers back in the day.
Sorry kids, but Twitter has well and truly spoken. I guess you should all have just gestated in the womb earlier.
The Incredibles 2 soared into US theatres June 15 while it’s already been in UK cinemas as of July 13.
After seeing the excitable reaction from our fellow film nerds in America, it appears the much longed for sequel will have been well worth the wait.
