Katy Perry officially has more Twitter followers than Egypt has residents.
Amassing over 90 million followers, the singer is now the most followed person on Twitter.
She’s the first user to reach the milestone, leaving the likes of Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Barack Obama in her wake, and putting their 84 million and below followers to shame.
Twitter took to, well, Twitter, to share the news. And while the pop star had her account hacked just over a month ago, that’s not stopping the social media site from partying in the name of Perry.
According to a release from Twitter announcing the new landmark, the top six expressions used to refer to Katy in tweets are: [my] queen, beautiful, [the] best, better [than], amazing and [my] spirit animal, NME reports.

Now, according to the CIA’s World Factbook, 223 out of the world’s 238 countries have a population less than 90 million.
That means Katy Perry has more followers than 94 per cent of the world’s countries have residents, which is absolutely insane.
Currently, Egypt is the closest to Katy Perry’s followers with a population of 88,487,396 as of July 2015.
But not everyone reacted positively to the news that the equivalent of the population of Egypt, and then some, is hanging on to the pop star’s every tweet:
But the majority were pleased for ‘Queen Katy’:
Either way, having 90 million followers is massive – we’re sure she’s probably happy about it.
