Police in Victoria, Australia are currently investigating terrorist links in a hostage situation in Melbourne which has left two dead.
It has been reported the gunman was shot dead after attempting to flee the apartment in Brighton on Monday, and opening fire at authorities.
Emergency services were dispatched to the building on Bay Street, shortly after 4pm after reports of an explosion.

According to Seven News the alleged hostage taker called the station and said:
This is for IS, this is for al-Qaeda.
Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Andrew Crisp responded to the claim:
I believe a phone call may have been made by some person to channel 7. That’s all part of the investigation at this stage as to who made the call, but we are working with channel 7 in relation to that call.

A body of a man was found shot in the foyer of the building and police are investigating if it is a ‘terrorist-related’ incident, Sky News reports.
Authorities involved have now confirmed the situation is under control and a woman taken hostage for two hours is reported to be safe.
Police have resolved a hostage situation at an apartment block in Brighton. Roads will remain closed in the area for some time while police investigate the incident.

The building was evacuated, with residents ordered to take cover at a nearby Coles as shots were heard at the scene.

Three officers were injured during the incident, with two taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.
