According to Seven News the alleged hostage taker called the station and said:

This is for IS, this is for al-Qaeda.

Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Andrew Crisp responded to the claim:

I believe a phone call may have been made by some person to channel 7. That’s all part of the investigation at this stage as to who made the call, but we are working with channel 7 in relation to that call.

A body of a man was found shot in the foyer of the building and police are investigating if it is a ‘terrorist-related’ incident, Sky News reports.

Authorities involved have now confirmed the situation is under control and a woman taken hostage for two hours is reported to be safe.
