A new trend is dominating politics at the minute and that trend is walls.

Back in 1987, Ronald Reagan stood tall just a few meters down from the Brandenburg Gate and called ‘Tear down this wall’ – but almost 30 years later, the world seems obsessed with building them back up again, according to Yahoo.

In case you missed it, it was revealed this morning that the UK is planning to build ‘a big new wall’ in Calais as a way of containing migrants. And by ‘big new wall’ I mean a £2 million pounds ‘big new wall’.

Now, in my opinion, what’s happening in Calais at the minute is an absolute mess – but by rounding migrants up like cattle and fencing them off, well – what is that going to solve in slightest?

A British minister revealed that the wall will be 13 foot high and one kilometre long. It is just one in a long list of new measures designed to beef up security at the French port.

Immigration minister, Robert Goodwill, said:

We are going to start building this big new wall very soon. We’ve done the fence, now we are doing a wall.

And as Donald Trump likes to utter, ‘and who’s going to pay for the wall?’. Well we are – the UK.

At the minute, it is thought that over 9,000 migrants are living in the notorious section of Calais known as ‘The Jungle’.

For months ‘The Jungle’ has been a domineering segment of our nightly news – typically showing how atrocious and saddening the living conditions are in Calais.

Headlines have been made recently as a result of migrants throwing objects at cars and lorries in order to slow traffic so that they can jump into the backs of large vehicles and try to sneak across the channel to the UK.

The wall is set to be built on either side of the dual carriageway leading out of the port – but will it really solve anything? No, or at least I don’t think it will.
