According to a new scientific theory, we may all actually be living in the Matrix.

A number of physicists have put forward the radical theory that our universe is a fake and we’re all part of a computer simulation depicting what life was like in 2015.

According to the scientists, the year is actually 2050 and the Earth has been taken over by robotic overlords who are using humanity as playthings in their virtual game.

It sounds pretty bonkers, but some scientists are taking the “simulation argument” very seriously indeed, and they reckon they can actually find evidence to support their assertions.

Robert Lawrence Kuhn, writer and host of ‘Closer to Truth,’ recently explored the theory in an in-depth report featured on Space.com. He notes that, according to Oxford University philosopher Nick Bostrom, the scenario played out in the film ‘The Matrix’ could be a reality.

Bostrom said:

(But) instead of having brains in vats that are fed by sensory inputs from a simulator, the brains themselves would also be part of the simulation. It would be one big computer program simulating everything, including human brains down to neurons and synapses.

According to Kuhn, hints that we actually are living in such a simulation include the fact that our universe seems to obey very mathematical laws – much like a computer program might – but some of the laws of physics may not quite add up.

It’s all pretty complex, but if you want to take the red pill and travel further down the rabbit hole, you can read more about the fake universe theory here.
