Ilhan Omar Says Trump Is ‘Corrupt, Inept And The Worst President We’ve Ever Had’

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has gone on the attack calling Donald Trump ‘corrupt’, ‘inept’ and ‘the worst president we’ve had’.

Ms Omar told American television host Rachel Maddow that the ‘squad’ (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley) would hold the president to account.

She also again called on colleagues in Congress to begin the process of impeaching the president.

She said: 

He is corrupt. He is the worst president we’ve had. He is inept and we are going to call him out for it, and we’re going to hold him accountable. It’s about time that we start the process and impeach this president.

Earlier today at a press conference, alongside other members of the ‘squad’, Omar said Trump should be impeached as they had to stop POTUS from making a ‘mockery’ of the constitution and to hold him accountable for his crimes.

She said: 

We’re not going to allow him to continue his throwing of the vile of garbage that constantly comes out of his mouth that allows for the media to be distracted truly from delivering the kind of inside investigation into the lawlessness that is of his administration, the constant human rights violations, the policies that are detrimental to our existence in this country, and the harm that he is causing on a daily basis to our Constitution and the existence of our country.

Omar has been a frequent target of Trump’s Twitter rants. Earlier this week the president tweeted that ‘Progressive Democrat Congresswomen’ should go back where they came from to the horror of both Democrats and (eventually) some Republicans.

When questioned about his remarks by reporters on Monday Trump doubled down on them claiming he didn’t need to apologise because ‘many people agreed with him‘, he also dismissed concerns white nationalist groups may find common cause with him on the point.

At the same press conference, Trump singled out Omar, who’s one of the first Muslim women ever voted to congress, for criticism, ranting that she thought al-Qaeda was wonderful while accusing her of hating Israel and Jews.

Omar has refused to address Trump’s remarks, saying ‘I will not dignify it with an answer’.

Trump meanwhile has denied being a racist, saying he doesn’t have a racist bone in his body.

He wrote:

Those Tweets were NOT Racist. I don’t have a Racist bone in my body! The so-called vote to be taken is a Democrat con game. Republicans should not show “weakness” and fall into their trap.

The president had previously suggested that the squad owed him an apology. 

Meanwhile Congress voted on Tuesday to condemn Trump for his tweets targeting the squad. 240 were in favour of the motion with 187 opposed. When the vote was over, Democratic Rep. Al Green brought articles of impeachment to the House floor against the president to try and force a vote.

Green said:

[Trump] has demonstrated that he is unfit to be president and has betrayed his trust as president of the United States to the manifest injury of the people of the United States and has committed a high misdemeanor in office.

Therefore, Donald John Trump, by causing such harm to the society of the United States, is unfit to be president and warrants impeachment, trial and removal from office.

The presiding House officer stepped in at this point though and said a ‘determination would be made on Green’s resolution at an appropriate time’.
