A former business partner of Stan Lee, against whom the Marvel creator had a restraining order, has been arrested on charges of elder abuse.
Keya Morgan was apprehended in Scottsdale, Arizona, just a week after the Los Angeles County District Attorney issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of five counts of elder abuse and as well as fraud charges.
Morgan was taken into custody, but the circumstances surrounding his arrest remain unclear for now.
The claims of abuse date back to June 2018, a month before Lee filed a restraining order against Morgan. Lee wasn’t named as a victim of elder abuse in the charges.
The timeline of the accusations aligns, however, with the same time period in which Lee and his family began distancing themselves from Morgan.
In that filing, Lee and his family allege Morgan mishandled the comic creator’s money and physically abused him, reports TMZ.
When the charges were announced, Morgan’s attorney stated he believed his client to be innocent.
Attorney Alex Kessel said:
My client stands firmly on his presumption of innocence. We expect him to be completely exonerated of all charges. Mr. Morgan has never abused Mr. Stan Lee in any way.
At the time of the order’s filing, Morgan also claimed in an interview with TMZ the accusations against him were false.
He said:
This is a witchhunt by his daughter and her lawyer against me because she cannot stand the fact Stan likes me so much. I will 100 per cent prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the allegations against me are false. The truth will come out.
Stan Lee passed away in November of 2018 at the age of 95.
