If you’re a Spice Girls fan, this may ruin some of your memories.
Blame Victoria Beckham, though, because she’s just made a pretty shocking revelation.
Apparently, if you’ve ever seen the girls sing live, you probably didn’t hear Posh Spice sing.
The pop star turned fashion designer admitted at the Vogue 100 exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery that producers used to switch her mic off because her singing was so bad – and so fans could hear the others.
Victoria told the host, Claudia Winkleman:
They used to turn it off and just let the others sing.
I got the last laugh – and now my mic is well and truly on, finally.
But while she may not have had the voice, she definitely had the looks. Some would argue she was the face of the band, which meant the fashion designer was given the biggest budget of the group to blow on clothes, The Telegraph reports.
She said:
I was always the one that loved fashion and it was quite a result for me because the girls always used to get their clothes for free because they were crap and so there was a lot of budget for me to have my little Gucci dress.
Which makes sense, that black dress was (and still is) iconic.
Not only was she the best dressed, Victoria says she was also the most well behaved:
When all the other girls were being fun and spontaneous and jumping on tables, I was always the one checking the table wasn’t going to collapse. I was always the sensible one.
Luckily because I used to wear heels, I just used to jig about a bit and I got away with it but it never came easily. I was always much more reserved than the other girls.
So she may have not been able to sing, but she looked good and was sensible. I’m not sure that makes much sense, but it made her (and the Spice Girls) an iconic superstar – so does it really matter?
