YouTubeA chain-reaction explosion has ripped through Mexico’s best-known fireworks market, killing at least 29 people.
State officials said 72 others were being treated for injuries, including 10 children. Some are being treated for severe burns, in some cases over 90% of their bodies.
People in neighbouring towns reported they could feel the ground tremble as fireworks stalls exploded in Tultepec, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Mexico City, CNN reports.
Local media reported there were 300 tonnes of fireworks on site at the time of the explosion, with more than 80 per cent of the 300 stalls reportedly destroyed.
After the explosion, a huge plume of smoke could be seen in the sky.
Drone footage, originally streamed on Facebook, shows an overhead view of the bazaar which has since been reduced to ashes and rubble.
Mexican Red Cross said they deployed ten ambulances and fifty paramedics to the scene, while President Enrique Peña Nieto tweeted condolences to ‘those who lost their lives.’
