This harrowing footage shows the moment a drunk heroin addict stabbed a teenager in the neck with a pair of scissors.

Joseph Giblin was left partially paralyzed, unable to use his right hand, following the unprovoked attack by Gary Gilbertson in Liverpool city centre.

The stab wound – which just missed a major artery – caused a compressed spinal nerve injury from which the 17-year-old may never recover from, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Gary Gilbertson, 41, of Suffield Road, Kirkdale, was jailed today for 10 years and eight months and given an extended five years on licence.

Liverpool Crown Court heard Joseph was in a group of around 25 people singing and dancing near a busker in Church Street at around 5am in June this year.

But the party was interrupted when Gilbertson – who drinks eight to 10 cans of super strength lager a day – started arguing with a young woman.

She told him to leave but he began to argue with another teenager, who spotted that he had the scissors.

That’s when Gilbertson walks towards Joseph, who bravely intervenes to stop him reaching the other teen. According to Judge Brian Cummings, Joseph put his hand up to Gilbertson’s face in self-defence, but was stabbed in the neck.

The video shows the sickening moment Joseph falls to the ground, before Gilbertson aims a ‘haymaker swing’ at Joseph’s friend Lee Parry.

Absolutely horrific.
