The whole country is talking about Wayne Rooney today after he became England’s highest ever goalscorer last night – and after a pretty dull season up to now, it’s definitely what he needed.
However, what most people don’t know, is that back in 2011 – a year in which he scored 34 goals in 44 appearances for Manchester United – he was absolutely smashing it on Twitter. Unfortunately, it was also the year his PR agent got involved and probably changed the password on his account.
And we’re assuming his sudden ‘revised nature’ in 2012 was for reasons such as this, when he replied to a troll, then ended up having an argument with himself…
Or the time when he antagonised half of Liverpool…
Or the time when he was really honest about his baldness. To be fair, this was a genius move. It shut down a lot of news reports…
What about the time he asked Phil Neville the big question. Absolutely priceless…
But turned on him a month later…
Or the time he called Piers Morgan an egg…
And then destroyed Jermain Defoe with banter…
He also cursed one of England’s future stars in just one tweet…
Another dig at Liverpool…
When he gave away the fact that Man Utd were signing Phil Jones…
More excellent, never-ending banter…
Oh, and this absolute belter…
Nowadays the United captain is quiet and reserved on the social media platform. We’re guessing there is someone over his shoulder every time he opens the app, which is a shame.
Because whether you love him or hate him, his twitter account in 2011 was something to behold.
