Compulsion Games’ dystopian stealth adventure We Happy Few is ridiculously British – even the bins look like little Daleks.
If you watch one trailer from E3, then I wholeheartedly recommend you make it the fantastically unsettling four minute preview at the bottom of this article.
Set in a creepy alternate UK in 1964, We Happy Few depicts a world where people are forced to take pills that make them happy.
You’ll play as a sad person off their meds – which as the E3 trailer demonstrates, has some genuinely chilling consequences. There are moments of clarity your character has that are just straight up nasty, with one particularly grim example in the trailer that I won’t spoil for you.
Essentially, you need to trick the world around you in to thinking you’re not a “downer” as you look for a way to escape, before your comrades cotton on and beat you to death.
It’s a fantastic idea for a videogame, and it seems to be shaping up very nicely indeed. If you were ever stuck in a nightmarish version of a British 60’s sitcom, I imagine it’d look a lot like We Happy Few.
Check out the new trailer below.
We Happy Few comes to the Xbox One Preview Programme on 26th July, with a full launch planned for later this Summer on Xbox One and PC.
