While the world mourns this morning’s shocking attacks in Brussels, it is important not to forget the recent atrocities which hit both Turkey and the Ivory Coast.
On March 13, a car full with explosives drove into one of the busiest streets in Ankara before detonating and killing 37 people while injuring a further 127.
Less than a week later on March 19, a suicide bomber with links to the Islamic State walked onto a busy street in Istanbul’s Taksim square area, before blowing himself up and killing five people including himself.
Witnesses told Al Jazeera that moments after the incident, hundreds of people ran in panic away from the site of the explosion.
Also this month, gunmen opened fire at a beach resort in the Ivory Coast, storming the beach and hotel in Grand-Bassam armed with Kalashnikovs and grenades.
Three African attackers, with links to Al-Qaeda carried out the attack which resulted in the deaths of 18 people.
Some of the weapons found in Grand #Bassam, definitely point to an organized attack #IvoryCoast pic.twitter.com/ezJJeFrHHa
