One 89-year-old man has been banned from his local Wetherspoons after bringing in his own sausage roll to the pub and eating it after ordering a drink, despite being a regular at the pub since 1985.

Phil Willett was asked to leave the branch in Waterend Barn in St Albans, Herts, after tucking into the snack, and claims that he has been treated shoddily by the establishment, with his friends outraged at the treatment he received and claiming his ban should be overturned.

The widower was banned despite visiting the pub nearly every single day for almost 30 years, and his friends are campaigning for him to be allowed back in to the establishment.

Avril Foster claimed:

He goes out every day because he loves seeing people.

People know him and would be horrified if they knew what was going on. He is a lovely gentleman and the regulars all know him.

However, according to staff at the pub, this is not the first time they have had issue with the 89 year old, and have also claimed that he is frequently rude to staff.

Wetherspoons claimed that they will be standing behind the decision to bar him, with spokesman Eddie Gershonn claiming that the manager on duty felt ‘enough was enough and that he had been given enough warnings’.
