PAWetherspoons is to host a National Gin Festival on bank holiday. Hip hip hurray for 2018.
That’s right. The budget pub chain will soon host its very own Gin Festival, serving gins from Japan, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Germany, as well as gins produced in the UK.
Taking place from Friday August 17 to Monday August 27, the 11-day long event will let punters choose from numerous award-winning gins among the selection as well as a choice of flavoured drinks.
The price of each gin will include a free mixer, in case you weren’t already sold.
The five overseas gins include: Gin Mare (Spain), Roku (Japan), Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin (Germany), Sharish Blue Magic Gin (Portugal) and Malfy Gin Con Limone (Italy).
The UK gins will include Jawbox Single Dry Gin, Masons Dry Yorkshire Gin, Wrecking Coast Clotted Cream Gin, Brecon Special Reserve, Finni’s Black Bee Gin and Bathtub Gin.
All of the gins will be served in a Copa de Balon glass, that bulbous glass basically, like a little balloon, which let’s face it is the only way to drink gin.
Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said:
This is our first national gin festival and we believe that our customers will enjoy trying the superb range of drinks on offer.
The gins will be on a par with those served in any leading bar, restaurant or hotel, but at far better value prices.
Thinking about some savoury snacks to accompany your gin? It’s just as well Wetherspoons introduced halloumi fries in the past week – with a place setting you back a mere £3.10.
The halloumi fries are served with a sweet chill sauce, and a bit of rocket on the side for good measure. But more importantly, it’s fried halloumi, a snack fit for Guy Fieri himself.

The launch of the Aldi’s halloumi burgers comes off the back of their own halloumi fries which they launched on May 19 for just £1.99. Glorious, squeaky, cheesy fries of beauty, for less than two £1 coins. Perfect for the summer.
What I’m saying is, the UK is beautiful. It is rife with budgets, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. If gin isn’t your thing, don’t worry, spend your bank holiday indulging all the other cheap delights this country has to offer.
