After years of fans waiting, hoping and wishing, Will Smith has finally confirmed Bad Boys 3 will be released on January 17, 2020.
The highly-anticipated third instalment of the detective drama has taken fans on a rollercoaster for the past couple of years as the release date has been announced, changed, unconfirmed and pushed back, but we finally, finally have a definitive answer.
Variety announced the latest release date of January 17, 2020 back in May, but with all the heartache fans have been through before with the broken promises of release dates, it was hard to trust Sony to follow through with it.
But thankfully the news has now been confirmed from a source we can definitely rely on – one of the Bad Boys himself, Will Smith.
Will shared the announcement in some posts on Instagram, alongside co-star and fellow detective Martin Lawrence, and if you weren’t already hyped for the movie, you will be after seeing these.
The actor confirmed both stars would be returning for the third Bad Boys film, as well as making it clear it was definitely happening. There’s no turning back now, Sony!
He announced the news in an Instagram video, and it seems like Will and Martin are just as excited to be back together as the fans are to have them reunited.
Check out the amazing announcement here:
Martin shared the post and expressed his excitement to get going with the production – although he admitted the pair might need a refresher with the Bad Boys song lyrics.
I suppose we should let them off for that – it has been a long 15 years since the second movie was released.
Martin wrote:
Can’t wait to hit the ground runnin! Blessed to be a part of such a great film with my brotha @willsmith We still gotta learn the words to the song though! [sic]
The script for Bad Boys 3, also known as Bad Boys For Life, comes from the mind of The Wedding Ringer writer Chris Bremner, with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah set to direct.
That Hashtag Show revealed some details about the plot of the upcoming movie, which told of Mike Lowrey (Smith) adjusting to life with a new partner after falling out with Marcus Burnett (Lawrence).
However, the original Bad Boys will be brought back together again when an Albanian mercenary puts a death order on both Mike and Marcus for killing his brother – and thus the action no doubt begins.
While there haven’t been any other revelations about the movie’s plot so far, Will did confirm one specific detail about a certain piece of technology Martin’s character will not be using.
Sharing a throwback picture on Instagram, Will wrote:
I promise you @martinlawrence won’t have a beeper in the new @badboys.
With the date set and main cast members on board, fans have unleashed their excitement.
One overjoyed fan wrote:
THIS IS AMAZING [sic]
While another commented:
OMG U MAKE MY DAY GUYS… [sic]
I think it’s safe to say people can’t wait for the third movie!
Bad Boys For Life will be released on January 17, 2020.
