A woman who couldn’t eat solid food for weeks after being hit in the face by a glass bottle is still receiving treatment for her injuries almost a year later.
Cheyenne Mottishaw, 23, was queuing with friends outside the Honeycomb nightclub on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield on April 21 last year when a man got into a fight and threw a bottle in her direction.
The bottle hit her in the face, fracturing her jaw, splitting her lip open and smashing her front teeth – leaving the nerves exposed and causing life-altering injuries for Cheyenne.
South Yorkshire Police have released CCTV footage of the moment the bottle is thrown:
Police officers are still hunting for the man who threw the bottle, and who was thrown out of the club moments before he got into the altercation.
Cheyenne remembers standing in line with her friends moments before the bottle hit her; the next thing she remembers is waking up in hospital after blacking out from her injuries.
For weeks, the 23-year-old was unable to eat solid food and was having to use a syringe to eat her food as a result of the ‘severe dental injuries’ she sustained in the assault.
She described the ordeal as ‘very painful’, telling UNILAD:
I had to wear a splint for six weeks to protect my teeth from infection. Having to get used to a whole new set of teeth, I would cry every day thinking I was ugly and [was] never going to look the same.
Cheyenne still hasn’t fully recovered, and is still having ‘ongoing dental treatment’ almost a year later. She also told UNILAD she is scarred for life after the attack.
Not only has the ordeal impacted her physical health, but the 23-year-old says her mental health has been massively impacted as she comes to terms with her injuries.
She explained:
It [has] impacted my mental health a lot. I was having to get used to my face completely changing, i.e facial scaring.
The unknown man is yet to face charges for the assault, as it’s still an ongoing police investigation. Hopefully, the newly released CCTV footage will encourage people to come forward who might have witnessed the incident.
If you have any information that can help officers with their enquires, please call 101 quoting incident number 1067 of 21 April 2019.
Our thoughts are with Cheyenne as she continues on her road to recovery.
