A 23-year-old woman in India has been commended for her bravery after cutting off a man’s penis as he tried to rape her.
The swami, known as Gangesanantha Teerthapadar, had raped the anonymous woman habitually over the past eight years but it all came to an end when the woman hacked off his genitals with a knife she had hidden beneath her pillow.
Seconds after she had cut off Teerthapadar’s penis – the law student called the police who praised her for her actions, reports the New Indian Express.
He was rushed to hospital ‘in a serious state’ but was left in a stable condition after undergoing emergency plastic surgery.
Pinarayi Vijayan, chief minister of the southern state of Kerala, where it happened, said:
It’s a courageous and strong act by the woman.
The man allegedly told the victim’s family he was a religious guru and was frequently invited round to their house to perform ceremonies – where he would also rape his victim.
Sparjan Kumar, the Trivandrum City police commissioner, added:
Swami was close to the family and would often come to their home. The woman didn’t tell her parents because she thought no one would believe her.
But when he tried to abuse her again on Friday, she cut off his private parts, ran out and called the police.
The young woman is currently under police protection and undergoing trauma therapy.
