It’s hard to deny it: 2016 was a bad year.

The planet continued warming at an alarming rate, the civil war in Syria raged on, many beloved celebrities died and the gun violence epidemic persisted unabated.

We looked to 2017 with hope, but after Donald Trump’s inauguration and subsequent executive order signings were met with protests, anger and sadness, this year isn’t looking as positive as we hoped.

The next 335 days are looking pretty bleak, but people like Marcos are here to make it just a tad better.

Taking to Twitter, a woman named Liz said, after renting a film from an online rental store, her mother opened the DVD box to find quite a surprise.

A mystery benefactor, known only as Marcos, had left a huge wad of cash inside the box along with a note.

It read:

Hello! My name is Marcos. Every month I take $100 that I’d normally spend on myself and give it away to a stranger.

This month I decided to change it up and put it in a Redbox DVD. You are the first giveaway of 2017!

I just ask that you put the money to good use; if you don’t need it, give it away. If you do need it, keep it. Have a great day! Marcos.

Liz took to Twitter to share the random act of kindness – which has since racked up a combined 121,000 likes and retweets – writing: “My mom was just hoping to relax and enjoy a movie, but instead God blessed her with more. Marcos whoever you are, God bless you.”

Way to go, Marcos.
