Woman Uses Medieval Sword Fighting Skills To Detain House Intruder

A house intruder from Indianapolis bit off more than he could chew when he entered the home of a woman trained in the art of medieval sword fighting.

Karen Dolley managed to hold the uninvited house guest captive at the tip of a sword, simultaneously calling 911 to get police to the scene.

The 43-year-old was alone sleeping in her bed when a she heard a voice from the living room of her house.

Karen then decided to take her chances and investigate the noise. Her fears were confirmed when she was confronted by 30-year-old Jacob Wessel.

Karen then saw the red mist and years of medieval fight training kicked in. She began to throw numerous punches that caught Wessel off guard.

Things then kicked up a notch when the frenzied woman went to retrieve her gun from a drawer, but in the panic she opened the wrong one instead fetching a Japanese Ninjato sword.

But not to fear, somewhat like Uma Thruman, Karen has some serious skills with a blade having become an expert in non-choreographed Japanese Rattan fighting during her time with the Society for Creative Anachronism. Wessel opted not to test his captor and remained cornered in a bedroom until police arrived.

He was arrested and charged with residential entry.

Karen said of the incident:

I didn’t think I was getting good blows in but my knuckles are bruised today. Hitting someone like that, it isn’t like the movies. You’re expecting it to be louder and see people jerk around, but that’s not how it happens in real life.

I’m really, really glad I didn’t have to do anything more. I know I could do it, but I don’t want to do that.”

Kudos to her, but lets just recap a key component of this story. A woman failed to grab her gun and it resulted in zero casualties and one successful arrest. Interesting.
