Women will now be allowed to serve in the US Army in any role.
The news comes from the New York Times, who claim that women will be able to take on any military role from January 2016, and USA’s Defence Secretary Ashton Carter said there would be ‘no exceptions’.
It is a huge step forward for women in terms of equal opportunities.
Women were previously only allowed to work in certain types of front-line and combat roles.
Carter claimed:
They’ll be allowed to drive tanks, fire mortars and lead infantry soldiers into combat.
They’ll be able to serve as Army Rangers and Green Berets, Navy SEALs, Marine Corps infantry, Air Force parajumpers and everything else that was previously open only to men.
It’s been a long time coming, and is a move that will both make the military stronger and infuriate organisations like ISIS, because we all know how much they value women!
