There’s a new guy on the set of Venom; Woody Harrelson, that’s who!
Woody Harrelson has confirmed he will be starring alongside Tom Hardy in the hotly anticipated Venom film; SONY‘s answer to Disney‘s Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Venom will follow Academy Award-winning Hardy’s anti-hero journalist, Eddie Brock, one of the MCU’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters.
But Tom Hardy isn’t the only big name to appear in the film. Amid repeatedly-denied rumours Tom Holland’s Spiderman will pop up in the fray, Woody Harrelson has also confirmed he will show his face.
Speaking with Collider about his Venom appearance, Harrelson explained:
I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know?
So I haven’t read that script, but anyways, just rolled the dice.
Harrelson said his part in Venom will be small, suggesting the titular character is getting his very own origin-style film.
But, Harrelson said, he’ll be in the sequel – and the admission has seen a lot of people predicting the Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri actor will be playing Carnage.
This will be part of one of three Marvel Cinematic Universes. Three.
In case you need catching up, Carnage is a symbiote super-villain which loves nothing more than making Spidey and Venom’s lives very, very difficult. This guy is essentially the darker version of Venom; a total psychopath who, unlike Venom, has no sense of morality.
Carnage is the alter ego of Cletus Kasady, a particularly nasty bloke who has killed a bunch of people. In the comics, he gets his hands on some of the Venom symbiote, which heightens his sadistic streak and turns him into an even more nasty bloke.
The rumour mill has been churning our info stating Harrelson will take on the portrayal of this evil for some time. The ‘little fraction’ part in Venom should be no problem for Harrelson, whose writing and directing debut premiered this year.
It saw the actor front and centre of an epic feat of filming in real time and in a single take with 300 crew and 500 extras, to critical acclaim.
Meanwhile, Woody’s been busy promoting Solo: A Star Wars Story here in the UK. He stars as Tobias Beckett, a criminal and Han’s mentor who’s looking to put together a crew to pull off a job.
Alongside co-stars Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Alden Ehrenreich and Thandie Newton, the film was released on May 26, to surprising applause.
Harrelson also recently confirmed there would be a Zombieland 2, much to the joy of the first film’s cult following, just after screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick confirmed plans for another movie.
With an ever-increasing back catalogue of characters, it seems Woody has the mettle to play near enough any part.
Venom is set to swing into UK and US cinemas later this on October 5.
