World’s Fastest, Tallest And Longest Dive Rollercoaster Is Coming Next Year

Rollercoasters are getting wilder and wilder each year, with theme parks all over the world competing to provide ever wilder thrills.

As someone who can barely handle a mild ‘Runaway Train’, the scale of modern ‘coasters – with their colossal loops and near-impossible drops – are truly astounding to me.

Now a theme park in Canada is preparing to bring rollercoasting to the next level, with the beyond formidable looking Yukon Striker.

Canada’s Wonderland, located close to Toronto, will be home to the Yukon Striker from 2019 onwards, a ‘coaster which will reportedly be ‘the longest, fastest and tallest dive roller coaster in the world’.

With more than 1,100 metres worth of track, the gold-rush Yukon Striker can reach speeds of up to 130 kilometres per hour, with highs of 245 feet (75 metres). The ride also features a complete 360-degree loop, a world first in dive coaster construction.

Thrill seekers will ride a white-knuckle 90-degree angle down into an underwater tunnel. Before the drop, the train will pause at the top for three seconds. Now, this sounds brief, but at such soaring heights the tension will be immense.

Canada’s Wonderland have now offered a glimpse at what this hair-frazzling ride will look like once up and running, and – to put it lightly – it looks intense.

Sharing CGI footage on Twitter, Canada’s largest theme park gave a sneak peak at what adrenalin junkies can expect from the three minute 25 second long ride.

The Canada’s Wonderland website has also given an atmospheric story behind the rollercoaster, drawing from the area’s history:

It’s 1897 and a flood of men and women are venturing into the untamed wilderness of northwestern Canada, fueled by little more than rumour of limitless gold. The headwaters of the Yukon spread beyond an unforgiving landscape, tempting newcomers with the promise of riches that lay buried in ice-cold riverbeds throughout the Klondike.

Most prospectors are doomed to fail. The journey is treacherous along the Chilkoot Trail, a steep and punishing climb high into the coastal mountain range. The seasons are extreme and the backcountry, for all its raw beauty, is unyielding.

Among the lawless boom towns and outposts, only a few will succeed in this quest for glory. A Golden Eagle soars high on the winds watching the perilous hunt. Who will endure the longest journey? Who will conquer the tallest mountain pass, the treacherous terrain and rise worthy of the name YUKON STRIKER….

The prospect of this ride has really separated the daredevils from the wusses, with many people taking to Twitter to share their thoughts, concerns and delight.

One excited person tweeted:

If anybody is looking for me……I’m already waiting in line for this.

Another squealed:

Can you imagine riding it at night?! Epic!

Now excuse me while I make sure my passport is up to date.

However, others appeared to turn green at the thought; with one person shuddering, ‘Literally got a stomach ache and cold sweats watching this’.

Anyone else’s palms already feel sweaty at the thought of that drop?!
