One British man has been rescued and his life saved after becoming lost in the Australian outback, and making one last ditch attempt to survive.

He did this by writing a plea for help in the sand, with an arrow pointing to where he was.

Geoff Keys claimed it was the ‘stupidest decision of his life’ not to head back upstream to his camp after going swimming in the Jardine National Park, Queensland, and ended up missing for two whole days.

Finally, after being unable to retrace his steps he wrote ‘HELP 2807’ in the sand, and miraculously was found by Queensland police, despite them not doing a search of that area.

He claimed:

It seemed a good idea to help myself as much as possible so I got out of the water, found a stick and wrote a message in the sand, just in case the helicopter came down that way.

HELP. 2807. –>. Help, today’s date and my direction of travel. I thought this would be enough to get any helicopter that saw it looking in the right place.

Thankfully, the 63 year old was rescued and claimed he would ‘not be doing that again’.
