GettyThe Yorkshire Ripper is reportedly set to become a Muslim after hardline Islamists offered to protect him in prison.
The news comes from an exclusive report from the Daily Star, which claims that serial killer Peter Sutcliffe made the decision after being inundated with daily death threats since he moved to HMP Frankland in Durham.
The 70-year-old killer’s fellow inmates have also verbally abused and threatened violence against Sutcliffe, and sources told the Star that Muslim gang members have offered to look out for Sutcliffe in jail, provided he converts to Islam.
One Muslim inmate apparently told Sutcliffe he was a marked man in prison and would be dead within a month unless he had friends to protect him.
A source reportedly said:
HMP Frankland is ruled by gangs and you are either in a white gang, black gang or Asian gang. If you are a child killer, rapist or a mass murderer, the only gang who are going to let you in are the Muslims but you have to convert to Islam.
PAApparently, the gang told Sutcliffe that converting faith would also allow him access to a special diet, more time out of his cell, and the right to refuse certain types of work.
Sutcliffe is serving twenty concurrent sentences of life imprisonment, after being convicted in 1981 of murdering 13 women and attempting to murder seven others.
