You Can Now Have Official Pokemon Weddings In Japan

Look, I’ve never been married but I can only assume that as much as your wedding day is the happiest day of your life, it can also be the most stressful.

From deciding what the hell you’re going to wear to choosing which people to invite – and don’t even get me started on whether everyone’s going to get along – the day has the potential to go south. And quickly.

Which is why sometimes themed weddings can seem like the way to go: the dress code is easy to follow so you don’t have to stress about what to wear, and it makes a statement your wedding guests are unlikely to forget anytime soon.

I’m sorry though, I just cannot get on board with Pokemon-themed weddings, which are now apparently a thing in Japan. In fact, they’re more than just themed weddings – they’re something which have been thought up by The Pokemon Company.

As reported by Kotaku, the company recently teamed up with ESCRIT – a Japanese company specialising in wedding ceremonies – to start offering officially licensed Pokemon weddings. They really leave no stone unturned.

Pictures from the first ceremony have been released, and to be honest I’m struggling to get my head around it all. There are literally Pokemon everywhere. Even the wedding certificate has the furry yellow creatures emblazoned on it.

Every part of the wedding ceremony is related to Pokemon in some way, from the food to the table decorations to the napkins to the… well, you get the gist.

There are even two Pikachu mascots, one for the bride and the groom, whose purpose I’m not really sure of. Did they walk the bride down the aisle? Did one serve as the groom’s best man? Did they serve the food?! Who even knows at this point?

You can’t have a Pokemon-themed wedding without Pokemon-themed food, it seems, because every dish served throughout the reception had hints of Pikachu sprinkled throughout.

I mean, look at that dessert. And that Poké Ball made out of macaroons! To be honest I’m just here for the food, I won’t lie.

Obviously, the cake received the full Pokemon treatment as well because – as everyone knows – the cake is clearly the most important part of the day. Forget about the person you’re marrying, cake is life.
