If you grew up in the ’90s it may be best to take a seat.
According to Deadline, Nickelodeon and Paramount are moving forward with an Avengers-style team-up movie called Nicktoons that will bring back some of their most beloved characters.
We’re talking Tommy Pickles teaming up with Rocko, Norbert Beaver, and Eliza Thornberry in a completely original story we’re sure will get ’90s kids packing out cinemas.
The big toons like Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh! Real Monsters, and The Angry Beavers are all expected to feature. But Nickelodeon has an absolutely vast character library spanning a quarter of a decade to choose from so we’re expecting at least cameos from more obscure characters – personally I’ve got my fingers crossed for Invader Zim.
The film’s reportedly being directed by Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess, and encouragingly he’s compared the project to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which makes us wonder if the project’s going to be a mix of live action and toon or just all traditional animation.
Jared Hess will also write the film with his wife and writing partner Jarusha Hess. It’ll be produced by Mary Parent, who’s rather eclectic career includes The Spongebob Squarepants Movie, Godzilla, The Revenant, Pacific Rim and Noah.
No word of a release date yet but we’re excited to see what the film will be like, just imagine the gross-out humour of Ren & Stimpy meeting the homespun charm of something like Doug – it sounds like a glorious disaster.
More of a concept than a journalist, Tom Percival was forged in the bowels of Salford University from which he emerged grasping a Masters in journalism.
Since then his rise has been described by himself as ‘meteoric’ rising to the esteemed rank of Social Editor at UNILAD as well as working at the BBC, Manchester Evening News, and ITV.
He credits his success to three core techniques, name repetition, personality mirroring, and never breaking off a handshake.
