Blue eyes are striking, even a little unnerving. But now scientists have discovered that all blue eyes are hiding a secret in their distant past.

As it turns out, you could be staring 6,000-10,000 years into the past.

Scientists from the University of Copenhagen, in famously blonde-haired and blue-eyed Denmark, have tracked down a genetic mutation that all blue eyed people have in common.

They believe the mutation began 6,000-10,000 years ago in just one person and that all other people throughout history with blue eyes have this common ancestor.

According to Science Daily, before this person everyone had brown eyes.

Look around you, everyone with blue eyes is related to the same person in the past whose eyes actually mutated.

I’ve got blue eyes but luckily my girlfriend has amber eyes so we’re not related or anything… phew.

Seriously though, imagine being the first person in the history of mankind to be born with blue eyes. I bet the rest of your tribe would have freaked out.
