Let’s talk about the Earth for a second. Or, more specifically, the possibility of the Earth being flat. Sounds ludicrous, right?
Well, there are some people who believe the theory, with more and more people buying into it. There’s even a Flat Earth Society whose numbers continue to grow every day.
And now one Flat Earther has challenged people to map out a journey in order to prove that the Earth is in fact round, promising the winner $100,000.
YouTube user Flat Out Hero posted the video to his page last month, stating:
Check it out. Here’s the challenge: Using flight charts, y’know, the only navigational maps that pilots can use to navigate, the only ones that can actually get them to where they’re going. Yeah, flight charts.
He then goes on to describe the challenge in detail, which involves travelling from point A to point B, before making a 90 degree angle turn. This is then repeated until you reach point C, and again to return back to point A.
Lost yet? Yep, me too to be honest. Science never was my strong point. To summarise though, he is basically offering anyone who can map out the specified journey a lot of money.
He then says to the camera:
Map that out, using the only navigational maps that we know. We can’t use a globe to navigate, but we know that we can use flight charts to navigate. So, map that flight round. If you can do it, $100,000 to the winner.
Now, offer anyone that amount of money and you’re putting yourself in a tricky situation: 1) Because people will do just about anything for $100,000, and 2) I refer you back to point 1.
So Wolfie6020 rose to the occasion and decided to prove the Flat Earther wrong, completing the challenge quite easily.
You can watch his video below:
The video – captioned ‘This Flat Earther owes me $100,000 – I completed his challenge – pay up buddy’ – shows the unknown man mapping out the journey on a flight chart which pilots reportedly use to navigate.
He does it successfully, in just over two minutes in fact, and shows viewers the result on screen while addressing the Flat Earther.
He states:
So there is the challenge, correctly mapped out, on a flight chart that pilots use to navigate… Correctly mapped out with the 90 degree turns, 190, 270, 360, and each leg being the same distance… So $100,000 dollars, thank you very much.
So Mr Flat Out Hero, your challenge has been answered. The requirements, as you stated them, have been satisfied. It is now your turn to honour your challenge and pay me the $100,000 dollars.
The man goes on to tell us what he is planning to do with his prize money, stating he plans to give half of it to a children’s hospital, and use the other half as prize money.
He then goes on to say:
So let’s see if you’re a man of your word and will honour your challenge.
Erm, I’m sorry to break it to you Wolfie6020 but I can almost guarantee that you will not be seeing that money in the foreseeable future. Make that, never.
A guy can dream though, and kudos for smashing the ‘challenge’ out of the park.
