We thought everyone who had voted Leave were voting for an apocalypse, but we didn’t actually know it could become a scientific possibility.

Forget the economy going down the shitter and the fact you won’t ever be able to go on a cheap European getaway ever again, because winter is coming – and not in a Stark/Game of Thrones kind of way.

An apocalypse could soon be on the cards, as for the second time this month, Vencore Weather claims the sun has gone ‘completely blank’, with images from NASA showing no large visible sunspots on its surface, the Daily Mail reports.

Before we start panicking too much, astronomers aren’t saying that this is that unusual, as solar activity wanes in 11-year cycles and we are currently in Cycle 24, beginning eight years back.

Paul Dorian of Vencore Weather said:

The blank sun is a sign that the next solar minimum is approaching and there will be an increasing number of spotless days over the next few years. At first, the blankness will stretch for just a few days at a time, then it’ll continue for weeks at a time, and finally it should last for months at a time when the sunspot cycle reaches its nadir.

But, be warned, if this current trend continues, the Earth could be heading for a ‘Maunder minimum’ phase – essentially a mini ice age similar to one we suffered back in the 1600s.

During this time, temperatures plunged so low that the River Thames froze over.

With the world going the way it is anyway, maybe it’s time to admit defeat and just go to the fucking moon.
