The discovery of a series of pyramid-like structures in Antarctica is baffling scientists around the world, potentially altering our knowledge of human history.

The incredible photos show the snow covered structures that eerily resemble Egypt’s pyramids of Giza.

Images on Google Earth revealed the existence of a four-sided structure, prompting theories that they may be man-made during times when the area was warm and habitable.

Three structures have been found, two roughly ten miles inland and the other closer to the coast, the Daily Express reports.

This, as well as other evidence such as the discovery of pollen on the frozen continent, and 32 different species of bacteria in its Lake Vida, is evidence that the climate used to be completely different to the tundra we are familiar with.

Dr Vanessa Bowman previously said:

Go back 100 million years ago and Antarctica was covered in lush rainforests similar to those that exist in New Zealand today.

We knew that climate change has had a serious effect on environment, but if these pyramids turn out to be man-made, it changes history as we know it.
