Higia TechnologiesAn 18-year-old guy has invented a bra that can detect the early signs of breast cancer after his mother was forced to undergo a double mastectomy.
Julian Rios Cantu has created the award-winning ‘auto exploration bra’ which only needs to be worn for one hour per week.
The bra contains 200 sensors that map the surface of the breast and surrounding areas, observing the colour, texture, and temperature.
The bra, called Eva, is able to detect blood flow, which often suggests that blood is feeding cancer cells.
The Mexican company, Higia Technologies, has won the top prize at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, which carries a $20,000 (£15,500) prize.
Higia TechnologiesThe company says it is ‘devoted to boosting women’s quality of life by attaining a professionalisation of the self exploration method for the early and effective detection of breast cancer’.
Over 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year, and early detection is crucial.
