In our digital age of instant news, lightning quick access to information and fast services, many people are only interested in ‘what is the quickest way to…’.
Even in their personal lives, the rise of speed and online dating helps people to reduce the amount of time they ‘waste’ forming relationships that ultimately may never lead anywhere. But what if there was a better way of getting to know someone? One that allowed you to form a close relationship with someone in a matter of minutes?
According to a recent study, science may have found the answer – and it’s not a computerised personality profiling system, it’s a set of 36 questions. They are split into three sections of twelve – each aimed to extract different types of information about your personality and world views.
Posted to Imgur but originally laid out in the snappily titled, The Experimental Generation Of Interpersonal Closeness: A Procedure And Some Preliminary Findings, the first section are general, fairly impersonal questions designed simply to get you thinking. The second twelve hone in on your dreams and relationships – meant to stimulate an emotional response – and the final set focus on your potential ‘partner’.
Particularly stand out questions include, “if a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future or anything else, would you want to know?” Or, the similarly deep, “if you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?”
Although there a lot of similar posts about what to ask in first date, how to have a deep conversation and so on, this set of questions do carry some psychological weight, could they be the real deal?
