Nicki Minaj is known for her X-rated and controversial lyrics, and her new track definitely doesn’t disappoint on that front.

On Sunday, Minaj dropped ‘The Pinkprint Freestyle’, after hinting about the release to her followers on Twitter.

It seems all that hype wasn’t quite enough for the Minaj camp though, so the rapper decided to bolster her publicity by weighing in on the death of beloved gorilla Harambe.

Nicki raps:

Bars for years, n*****s thought I did a bid, dragging these hoes like Harambe did the kid.

Judging from those lyrics, I’m not sure Nicki actually knows the full Harambe story.

ICYMI, the Cincinnati Zoo gorilla was shot after a young boy fell into his enclosure – but the comparison between herself and the animal who didn’t exactly come out on top seems odd, particularly when she’s rapping about how she plans to handle her competitors.

Is Nicki clutching at straws for a decent rhyme here or does she have a legit death wish?

Or are we all just reading too much into her lyrical talents and confusing genuine bars for a simple press stunt?

Whatever the reason, the Internet predictably lost its collective mind over the Minaj/Harambe collab:

Nicki Minaj is nothing if not topical. But seriously, when are we all going to let Harambe rest in peace?

As if being immortalised in countless Internet memes wasn’t enough, he’s now been relegated to a line in the Nicki discography.

We doubt Harambe was much of a rap fan anyway, to be honest.
