A week on from UFC 229, and in particular, the fall out from the main event, Conor McGregor v Khabib Nurmagomedov, it seems the flames aren’t dying down anytime soon.
Last Saturday (October 6), McGregor made his long-awaited return to the Octagon, but was submitted by Nurmagomedov in the fourth round, during an explosive encounter in Las Vegas.
I don’t need to remind you of all the details of what happened following Khabib’s victory – it’s dominated sports news for seven days – but now, we’ve got another figure who’s decided to get themselves involved.
None other than rapper and movie producer, 50 Cent, a.k.a Curtis Jackson.
The In Da Club singer was recently caught up in a nasty feud with boxer, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, calling out the boxer’s supposed illiteracy, all while copping worse in return.
While that particular slice of beef may be put to one side for now, it seems Jackson may be making a new enemy, in UFC President, Dana White.
White is believed to have stood by his promise to stand down fighter Zubaira Tukhugov, cancelling his previously scheduled fight this month with Conor McGregor’s teammate, Artem Lobov.
Just to give you a bit of background if you haven’t been paying attention to the UFC 229 fallout, the Russian featherweight’s future in the sport is currently in major doubt following his antics during the brawl which followed McGregor and Khabib’s fight.
Moments after Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor, Tukhugov stormed the Octagon and punched the Irishman.
Nurmagomedov has since threatened to leave the UFC if Tukhugov is fired and now, fans think we’ll see which of the two men has the fortitude to lose more.
In a post, Khabib said [translated]:
If you think that I’ll keep silent then you are mistaken. You canceled Zubaira’s fight and you want to dismiss him just because he hit Conor.
But don’t forget that it was Conor who had hit my another Brother FIRST, just check the video.
If you decide to fire him, you should know that you’ll lose me too. We never give up on our brothers in Russia and I will go to the end for my Brother.
If you still decide to fire him, don’t forget to send me my broken contract, otherwise I’ll break it myself.
However, 50 Cent may have made the decision to break his contract a little easier.
The Candy Shop rapper has reportedly made a pretty sweet counter-offer.
Jackson offered to take the lightweight champion and Tukhugov under his wing, paying upfront a huge sum of $2 million.
Curtis’ offer was made via Instagram and the world is currently waiting to see if it’ll be taken up…
At the time of writing, McGregor and Khabib have both been temporarily suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), pending a full investigation into the scenes which marred the end of their lightweight fight at UFC 229.
The commission says it will meet on October 24 and consider whether to extend the suspensions and withhold money owed to the fighters.
Dana has since said Khabib will keep his belt, so who knows what the future holds…
