Anthony Joshua has knocked out Carlos Takam in their heavyweight bout at the Principality Stadium, in Cardiff.
THe 28-year-old IBF and WBA champion soundly defeated Takam in Wales, in their highly anticipated bout.
With another win on his record, talk now moves to Joshua taking things further with the possibility of fighting for the WBC crown and the WBO title.
In order to get all four titles, he’ll have to go through Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker respectively.
Speaking to BBC Sport about the prospect, Joshua said:
History is a great thing to chase, it’s very possible and a great challenge.
Although it might not be an easy task, AJ would have to time the fights to satisfy all the sanctioning bodies.
Still, the British heavyweight is determined to make it happen, saying:
It’s like a diamond in the dirt, the treasure, trying to get that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
If we can make it happen, I will be up for it – but if not, it’s not the end of the world, and leaves a record to break for someone else.
The last person to hold all the heavyweight titles was Mike Tyson back in 1987, though at the time there was no WBO and therefore, only three titles.
Since then, plenty have held three titles, including Evander Holyfield, Riddick Bowe, James Douglas, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury all going home with the triple.
Takam bravely stepped in to the ring to fight Joshua with only 12 days notice after an injury to Kubrat Pulev – who was due to fight AJ originally.
The change of opponent made for a slight alteration of tactics for Anthony Joshua and before the fight, he and his coach Rob McCracken were discussing the changes they made for training.
Joshua said at the time:
Rob has never just trained me for one style of opponent. He has trained me to be the best me.
Whether I was fighting Pulev, King Kong or Takam, he’s trained me to be me – thinking about balance, footwork and hand positioning.
He continued:
The mindset of a fighter has to be leave that last fight where it was and move on to the next opportunity.
If I am living off past wins I may as well give up.
I can’t lose this fight and say ‘I won a good one last time’. No one cares.
Well he definitely won a good one this time and with his eyes on the future prizes, he’ll certainly be trying to win a few more in the coming months and years.
