Third Year AbroadArsenal have built up a reputation for playing classy football over the years.
But now they’ve shown they’re equally classy off it, by building two football pitches for children fleeing war in Iraq.
The Gunners have joined forces with children’s charity Save the Children to give boys and girls the chance to play football despite their situation.
Arsenal ladies captain Alex Scott flew out to see the pitches and meet some of the children helped by the project, and was pleased with the work:
If I can go and have a positive impact on any of these young children’s lives that will make it all worth it because I know what it meant to me playing in that football cage in East London.
That was when I dreamt of playing for England and playing for Arsenal.
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis added:
Think about a kid who’s in Iraq, whose life has been ripped apart and been pulled out of their home environment.
Their heroes are still out there and that’s a very powerful statement that a club like Arsenal can come in and say not just that you’re a part of our community but also that we care.
