In case you’d been living under a rock all summer, you’ll know that Arsenal are chasing a striker in the transfer window.
They’ve been knocked back by everyone from Jamie Vardy to Mauro Icardi, and it showed as the Gunners lost their Premier League opener to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
One of the many forwards they missed out on was Alexandre Lacazette, who came with a hefty £42 million price tag.
Unsurprisingly, Wenger left the France international alone, but may have regretted his decision as Lyon swept aside AS Nancy at the weekend, with Lacazette netting a hat trick.
But, despite his club turning down Arsenal’s £29 million bid earlier this summer, the 25-year-old is still willing to jump ship if offers come in.
Speaking to CANAL+ after the 3-0 win, Lacazette said:
If offers come in that one cannot refuse, I don’t want to refuse them. If not, I am happy at Lyon.
But I’m very comfortable at Lyon. The proof was there today that I was in the right state of mind, I scored three goals – I’m pleased.
With my teammates, everything is going well. So for me all is well.
Lacazette – who was given his Lyon debut by current Southampton manager Claude Puel – has been one of Ligue 1’s standout strikers for the last few years, and scored 23 goals last season, which again raised interest in his services.
A host of clubs have been linked with a move for him in the past three summers, but his price remains too high for any Premier League side to take a gamble on him.
However, judging by Arsenal’s lack of goal threat against Liverpool on Sunday, they may finally be tempted to part with a big fee to land one of Europe’s most highly rated forwards.
