The wait had barely begun, but Brock Lesnar’s opponent at UFC 200 has been confirmed.
Lesnar – whose one-off appearance at the bicentennial show was confirmed at UFC 199 at the weekend – will enter the Octagon at the T-Mobile Arena to face heavy hitter Mark Hunt.
As reported by MMA Junkie, Lesnar and Hunt are now the co-main event on July 9, with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones fighting for the undisputed light heavyweight belt atop the bill.
New Zealand fighter Hunt, who has Samoan heritage, will step into the cage in good form, having won his two previous fights – including an uncompromising knockout of Lesnar nemesis Frank Mir in Brisbane.
The news was broken by 38-year-old Lesnar himself on ESPN’s SportsCenter this morning.
He told Hannah Storm that he regretted ‘closing the door’ on MMA:
I couldn’t live with that decision. It was the hardest decision for me to make. That decision has haunted me for the last 15 months. I figured I couldn’t live like that for the rest of my life. I’m a big believer in living out your dreams and facing your fears.
