That now infamous high kick from Holly Holm damaged a lot more than just the pride of former bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
Rousey was forced to visit a Melbourne hospital to rule out concussion, treat a split lip, and to undergo plastic surgery.
Following the kick that sent Rousey to the ground Holm was able to land three undefended fists to her opponent’s face before the fight was called in her favour.
Rousey was treated by medics on the canvass, sitting up before eventually regaining her feet. She did not however manage to fulfill post-fight media obligations, requiring medical attention as a priority.
Having suffered her first ever professional defeat Rousey was given the all clear for concussion, but remained in the hospital for observation following minor surgery to repair her damaged lip.
Here’s hoping a speedy recovery is made and a rematch will be in the offing soon enough, hopefully with just as much drama.
