Conor McGregor is arguably one of the most watchable fighters of any sport – but after his cross-code defeat against Mayweather in August he has to come back strong.

Most fighters would come back from possibly the highest-profile defeat in boxing by taking down a journeyman and continuing their career off the back of a win.

After all, the only thing worst that a defeat is two defeats in a row.

However, Conor McGregor is definitely not ‘most fighters’ and reportedly has his sights set on a more challenging bout for his next MMA match.

The Irish Independent are reporting that McGregor is very close to signing a deal to fight Nate Diaz on December 30 in Las Vegas.

Nate Diaz has delivered one of McGregor’s very few UFC defeats and the pair are currently 1-1 against each other so it would arguably be the biggest way for him to return to the Octagon after being beaten in the ring by Floyd Mayweather.

Best of three anyone?

It’d be one hell of a New Year’s treat if they can pull it off.
