PAConor McGregor has come out of retirement… Again.
It’s been just over a week since the Irish MMA champ raised a virtual piña colada and announced he was retiring ‘from the sport formally known as Mixed Martial Art’.
But it didn’t take long for The Notorious to say something so notorious he had to come back out of ‘retirement’ for the third time (correct me if I’m wrong, it’s hard to keep count), to get back in the Octagon with the hope everyone will see him for his athleticism and forget he’s a bit of a dick.
Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today.
I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.

McGregor’s last fight saw him submit to a Khabib Nurmagomedov neck crank in the fourth round of his UFC 229 headliner on October 7, 2018.
Despite tweeting he would go into quite a cushy retirement – that whiskey isn’t going to sell itself – on March 26, it took him less than a fortnight to go back on his promise… All in the name of shit-talking the man who beat him fair and square.
McGregor tried to goad the Dagestani Lightweight UFC Champion into a rematch with a slew of insults.
He calls for a rematch and called him a ‘rat’ in no uncertain terms:
Don’t be scared of the rematch you little scurrying rat. You will do what you are told like you always do.
So far so normal. But the UFC’s first two division title-holder took it too far with not one but two now-deleted posts including images of Nurmagomedov’s wedding day and two insults aimed at his wife.
To put it plainly, observers and some members of MMA Twitter are calling McGregor’s comments racist.
In the removed tweets, McGregor referred to Nurmagomedov’s wife as a ‘towel’ and a ‘goat’. Since, the backlash from those who deem the comments racist has been palpable.
Nurmagomedov responded not in the ring, but on social media and made allegations about Conor which are as yet unsubstantiated.
Since, the Irish fighter seems to have backed down, sharing an out-of-character message of unity and hope… Hope that people will forgive him and the sporting PR machine can trundle over yet another blip, presumably.
The 30-year-old dad-of-one wrote:
I want to move forward, with my fans of all faiths and all backgrounds. All faiths challenge us to be our best selves. It is one world and one for all. Now see you in the Octagon.
And with that, he’s back out of retirement once again.
