Conor McGregor did not ‘come to take part’, he came to ‘take over’ and now he is the first two-division champion in UFC history.

The Notorious electrified the Madison Square Garden crowd with a dominant and measured performance, dropping the former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez three times in the opening round alone.

The American never established a foothold in the bout, and the referee was forced to call the fight by T.K.O. when McGregor sent his opponent to the canvas once more…

And with that stoppage after 3:04 of round two Conor McGregor silenced his critics and further cemented his place in the history books of MMA.

McGregor told Joe Rogan after the fight:

I spend a lot of time slinging everyone in the company, I’ve ridiculed everyone on the roster, I’d like to take time to apologize to absolutely nobody.

He leaves New York city with both the featherweight, and the lightweight belts, and big decisions to make about his next move.

Meanwhile the welterweight belt was also on the line at MSG, with Tyron Woodley retaining in controversial style.

The defending 170lb champion’s fate was left in the hands of the judges following a five-round war with Stephen Thompson, and a majority draw was in fact the outcome.

It certainly caused some confusion for announcer Bruce Buffer…

‘Wonderboy’ did not leave the Octagon downhearted though, he did incredibly just to reach the end of the bout after Woodley sank in what appeared to be a nasty guillotine.

Somehow Thompson was not forced into submission and has called for a second installment of what will be remembered as one of the great UFC title fights.
