Conor McGregor making his debut in the boxing ring against possibly the greatest opponent the sport has seen and managing to last just shy of 30 minutes was a pretty unbelievable feat.
Despite McGregor only landing a handful of punches, he has the record for the second most punches anyone has landed on Floyd Mayweather during Money’s 50-0 career.
After having the snot punched out of him – literally – and then being presented with a cheque for tens of millions of dollars – McGregor celebrated by doing what I imagine all of us would do – drinking a s**t load!
McGregor’s post-fight celebrations took place at the Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas, where he was surrounded by family, friends and, of course, his adoring fans.
The Irishman reportedly shelled out $100,000 for drinks for everyone there, while partying at the DJ table and stopping for obligatory fan selfies.
Maybe his ‘fatigue’ wasn’t a factor in the fight after all? I mean, managing ten rounds with Floyd Mayweather before partying the night away requires a LOT of energy – I’d have been in my PJs with a box set!
In the aftermath of the mega-fight, McGregor revealed his love for alcohol in a different way.
The Notorious is going to be releasing his own brand of Irish whiskey – a major business enedevaour for McGregor Sports and Entertainment, which will be backed by big dog’s Monster Energy and Beats by Dre.
In seemingly high-spirits despite his loss, McGregor said at the time:
Oh, that whiskey tastes so good…Notorious Irish whiskey coming soon.
I’m going to take over the Irish whiskey market, and this is delicious. So keep an eye out for it.
According to VT, McGregor was refreshingly honest after sinking a few drinks, saying:
It was a good fight. I thought I smoked him in the early rounds… but I tell you what [Mayweather], you are one composed individual.
You didn’t get rattled. You tucked in when you needed to tuck in. I thought you changed your game plan three times.
Came out looking to box — I thought you were being out-boxed early on. You looked to play against the ropes, you were getting picked off there.
And then you came in hands up to your forehead, head dipped in on your chest and you fought that kind of fight. I didn’t anticipate that.
Three game plan changes in the fight. That’s what a true champion does. Much respect. You came with it. I got to give respect to that.
We still don’t know what’s up next for McGregor, but it’s safe to assume it’ll involve a SHIT ton of money.
