Conor McGregor has sent Twitter in meltdown after announcing that he is ‘retiring’.

The ‘Notorious’ is no stranger to hyping his fight career, but this latest move has only left fight fans scratching their heads.

Check it out:

The Irishman, who is scheduled to fight Nate Diaz in a rematch at UFC 200 in July, had only tweeted a day previous that he was in Iceland training for the bout.

Nonetheless, followers are Tweeting in a confused frenzy hoping to discover the truth…

Others have reacted with pure skepticism.

Many are just outright refusing to even contemplate the possibility…

And of course, an army of social media users were ready to remind McGregor of his UFC 196 defeat to Diaz.

Naturally fans are concerned how Dana White must be feeling too.

Since Mcgregor’s original post his coach John Kavanagh has seemingly echoed the claim.

Meanwhile Nate Diaz has also added his two cents…

Over 40,000 retweets and counting, 25,000+ likes, it is certainly a bold move to get the internet talking but it has definitely done the trick.

Mcgregor has always said he came for a good time not a long time, suggesting he would retire once he had made some serious cash and won some titles, but the timing certainly wouldn’t appear to fit.

We will all just have to sit tight, religiously refreshing our twitter feeds in the hope of a full explanation.
