Eddie Hall Retires After Beating ‘The Mountain’ To Become World’s Strongest Man

Eddie Hall will no longer compete at World’s Strongest Man, but the reason is cause for celebration.

The world-record holder in the deadlift took to Instagram to announce his retirement from the competition with a rather cryptic message.

He wrote in the post:

I can’t say how I’ve done at wsm but I can say I’m now retired from wsm! I’ll still be on the British scene for many years to come and I thank all my fans and sponsors and my family and friends to the moon and back.

Eddie may not be able to say why, but not everyone got that message…

And suddenly it all makes sense!

As reported by The Independent, to take the crown that had so far eluded the British strongman he had to overcome a familiar face.

Hafthor Julius Bjornsson – AKA The Mountain from Game of Thrones – has placed second and third in the competition three times each and could only look on as Hall dominated in the the squat lift, Viking press and deadlift en route to glory.

Hall also defeated American Brian Shaw in Botswana, who had earned his fourth title at last year’s event.

Congratulations Eddie – you’ve done us all proud!
