Egyptian Lawyer Launches €1 Billion Lawsuit Against Sergio Ramos For Mo Salah Tackle

On Saturday evening the world watched on in awe at the highly-anticipated Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

The final, which took place in Kiev, was to many a battle between Mo Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo – and judging from the first 20 minutes of the game, it was shaping up to be an epic.

Possession was end to end, there were numerous shots and crosses into the box from both sides, however that all came to an end around 25 minutes into the game.

As I’m sure by now you are all aware Salah went to the floor before crawling around in agony. Although no foul was given by the referee many are claiming he was intentionally taken down by Real Madrid’s Marmite defender, Sergio Ramos.

Why? Because in footage of the incident, Ramos can be seen holding Salah’s arm in place in an awkward position – which he proceeds to fall on – bringing on suspected ligament damage in the process.

Salah tried to play on but his attempt was short-lived – going off for the rest of the game just moments later due to the injury which has since put his involvement with the Egyptian national team at the World Cup in jeopardy.

One man who really isn’t happy about all of this is none other than Egyptian lawyer, Bassem Wahba, who has launched a €1 billion (£873m/$1.2bn) lawsuit against Sergio Ramos for the controversial challenge.

Yes that’s right, Wahba has launched a gargantuan €1 billion lawsuit against the Spanish defender. Jeez.

According to Goal, while appearing on Egyptian television channel Sada El-Balad , Wahba announced he had filed a complaint to FIFA, saying:

Ramos intentionally injured Mo Salah and should be punished about his actions. I’ve filed a lawsuit and a complaint to FIFA.

I’ll ask for compensation, which could exceed €1 billion, for the physical and psychological harm that Ramos gave Salah and the Egyptian people.

Wahba has also pledged that if he does receive any money from the lawsuit he will hand it straight over to the ‘Long Live Egypt Fund’.

As well as this, a petition has been launched to punish Ramos for ‘intentionally hurting Salah’ and his since received almost 400,000 signatures at the time of writing.

In the aftermath of the controversy, Ramos sent Salah a message of condolence.

Taking to Twitter he wrote:

Sometimes football shows you its good side and others the bad. Above all we are fellow pros. Get well soon, Salah. The future awaits you.

It’s unsure how Salah is keeping but we know his teammate and Liverpool Football Club goalkeeper Loris Karius is having a categorically bad time.

‘Haven’t really slept until now…’ he wrote on Twitter. ‘The scenes are still running through my head again and again…I’m infinitely sorry to my teammates, for you fans, and for all the staff.’

He added:

I know that I messed it up with the two mistakes and let you all down. As I said I’d just like to turn back the time but that’s not possible.

It’s even worse as we all felt that we could have beaten Real Madrid and we were in the game for a long time.

Thank you to our unbelievable fans who came to Kiev and held my back, even after the game. I don’t take that for granted and once again it showed me what a big family we are. Thank you and we will come back stronger.

Next year will be Liverpool’s year. Surely.
